First Announcement and Call for Papers

November 8-11, 2013, Nanjing, China

Dear colleagues :

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we warmly invite you to attend the 2013 Jinling International Forum on Medical Education of 21st Century-Challenges and Opportunities for Pathophysiology, be held during November 8-11, 2013 in Nanjing, China. The 21st century has witnessed a rapid development in life sciences with a growing list of newly furrowed research territories, technologies and tools. At the same time, pressure is mounting worldwide that medical schools and research institutions alike take necessary measures to renovate and upgrade the educational infrastructure to provide for higher-quality care as demanded by our societies. Standing at the crossroads of basic biomedical sciences, modern clinical medicine, and life sciences, pathophysiology is poised to play a commanding role in reforming and revamping what has become a global challenge facing the medical education community: outdated course structure, lack of personification, and a discordance among different disciplines.

Facing this mandate to bring revolutionary changes to 21st century medical education, the Chinese Association of Pathophysiology has taken the initiative to launch the 2013 Jinling International Forum on Medical Education of 21st Century-Challenges and Opportunities for Pathophysiology, co-sponsored by Nanjing Medical University and the Jiangsu Association of Pathophysiology. The forum, we hope, will serve as a platform where experts from all around the world can communicate and debate on subjects ranging from medical education reform, course integration of pathophysiology, textbook writing and editing, education management and evaluation, to the training of future medical scientists. Plenary and invited talks along with seminars will be featured in this forum to bring experts of different specialties together to discuss these topics of common interest. It is our belief that, going forward out of this forum, strategies will be consolidated, solutions will be identified and coalitions will be forged so that we will be better positioned to address the challenges facing our community.

Nanjing is the capital city of Jiangsu Province situated in Southeastern China with a rich culture and heavenly sceneries. We hope that our colleagues and friends, domestic or foreign, who share our mission, interest, and goal, will be able to join us in this dialogue that will likely shape the future of 21st century medical education. We look forward to hosting you in Nanjing.
